Can I use malt vinegar instead of white vinegar to clean?


Malt vinegar has the potential to stain light fabrics and materials, so it’s not recommended for use in almost all cleaning tasks.
Yet, if you are running short on white vinegar and you’ve found something rusted or used for cleaning glass surfaces, malt is a great substitute.

Malt vinegar is fine for cleaning, but it is not the first choice simply because it has a strong smell and is more expensive than white vinegar.

• White vinegar tends to work well for household cleaning to cut through grease.
• Acetic acid is present in both vinegars, which makes them good cleaners.
• Basic cleaning, like degreasing, can be done using malt vinegar.

It's brown so it may leave residues or streaks. It’s better to stick with white vinegar for cleaning visible surfaces, including windows. However, malt vinegar is okay to use in less visible areas such as drains.
